CLINSH: state of play

CLINSH: state of play

The goal for the CLINSH ship demonstration was to recruit 30 ships to collect the emission data. Ultimately 42 ships were contracted (plus the test ship the Max Prüss), so that is more than previously intended. To achieve this, three recruitment rounds were needed, while one was planned. It also turned out to be necessary to organise the recruitment procedure as easily as possible and to organise a lot of publicity for the CLINSH project. The table gives an overview of the intended number of ships with the different techniques and the contracted ships.

Installation was a challenging
The measuring equipment has been installed on all ships. It turned out to be quite a challenge to get everything planned and working properly. The situation is different for each ship, so this required customisation and improvisation. In addition to the measuring equipment, the skipper had to take care of a properly functioning fuel gauge. This turned out to be difficult on many ships, because there were no standard solutions available for this either. Since the costs were higher than anticipated, CLINSH contributed to these costs. Because of these complications it took longer than planned before the measurements on the various ships started. The reference measurements are now also in full swing. In addition to checking the NOx measurements, the purpose of these measurements is also to perform PM measurements.

Delay
Due to the complications mentioned above, the project has been delayed by approximately one year. The final conference is now scheduled for September 2021. The analyses of the measurement results are in full swing. Interim results wont’t be published yet because data is still being collected.

Corona
Due to the corona virus, most of the ships are currently no longer accessible for the reference measurements or for repairs to the measuring equipment. There are also fewer sailings and some skippers are at a complete standstill. For the time being, we assume that this can be overcome with a limited extension of the measurement period and in this way sufficient representative data can be collected to base the analyses on.
